Silk/Textile Painting Workshop I

Beginners Class That’s Fun & Easy

No painting experience needed .

This can be taught as a one-day workshop.

Then a variety of painting methods will be demonstrated, such as blending, wet-on-wet, line building, using gutta resist and salt. You will then apply what you’ve learned by working on an individual project of your own choosing. Your artwork can then be heat-set, and incorporated into a quilt, pillow or wall hanging.

Soy Batik Workshop

This can be taught as a one or two-day workshop .

If you’ve used bee’s wax and paraffin to batik and you wanted to go “GREEN”, here is your chance to try the washable environmentally friendly, non-toxic soy wax. In this workshop, students will explore many different ways to batik. Methods such as stamping, sprinkling, the use of tjaps, brushes and found objects will all be shown. Bring in several fabrics, your previously dyed projects or mistakes. You can use soy wax to batik on new textiles and create beautiful textures and designs. You can also use it to recycle old fabrics by applying soy wax and then dyeing and over-dyeing. You can find more information in my article; Batik Goes “Green” with Soy Resist in Belle Armoire Magazine Sept/Oct. 2007.
